The Lucas County Solid Waste Management District sponsored annual household<br />

hazardous waste collection days. County residents were encouraged to drop off<br />

paint, pesticides, sealers, and other leftover products free of charge. In 1997, they<br />

collected 301,257pounds and in 1998 they collected 237,487 pounds of paint,<br />

aerosols, pesticides, and flammables.<br />

The District began paint collection in 1997 and in 1998 it was expanded to include<br />

other materials. In 2000, they collected 50,761 pounds in Ottawa County.<br />
