Influential Farmer Meeting<br />

Innovative farming practices in Northwest Ohio were highlighted during this ½-day<br />

workshop in Napoleon. Landowners presented their success stories, including the<br />

incorporation of livestock manure and city sludge into a no-till program, Soil Doctor<br />

technology to assist with nitrogen fertilizer applications, fertility and herbicide<br />

management programs, para-tilling after wheat and then no-tilling corn, and the use of<br />

no-till with additional crops added to the rotation. Approximately 50 landowners<br />

attended this event.<br />

“From Satellites to Earthworms: Improving Farm Management” Workshop<br />

August 27, 1996<br />

Workshop to demonstrate new conservation practices that could provide top yields as<br />

well as improve current farming methods. Discussions included no-till management<br />

practices <strong>for</strong> corn, improved nutrient management systems, global positioning system<br />

technology, successful long-term no-till rotations, and multiple benefits of long-term<br />

no-till management to improve earthworm population and soil structure. More than<br />

100 landowners and interested citizens attended this meeting.<br />

“Is Your Drinking Water Safe: A Closer Look at Pesticides” Public Meeting<br />

February 29, 1996<br />

This seminar explored pesticides and herbicides in drinking water. Presentations<br />

were given by the Heidelberg College Water Quality Laboratory and the<br />

Environmental Working Group. Discussions on drinking water improvements took<br />

place between farmers, chemical companies, Ohio EPA, and water treatment plants.<br />

More than 80 people attended this meeting at the Edison Club in Maumee.<br />
