Description:<br />
Lead Organization:<br />
State Representative John Garcia, assisted by Tony Spada<strong>for</strong>a of Community<br />
<strong>Partners</strong>hip Initiative, organized a videotaped <strong>for</strong>um on Ottawa River pollution issues<br />
<strong>for</strong> State Representative William Schuck, Chairman of the State House Energy and<br />
Environment Committee. Mr. Spada<strong>for</strong>a spoke with more than 80 local, state and<br />
national environmental experts and advocates about Ottawa River pollution to develop<br />
a plan to in<strong>for</strong>m the public of pollution concerns to generate interest, concern and to<br />
gain the attention of government leaders. Fifty community roundtable<br />
discussions/videotape viewings were planned, though project funding was never<br />
received.<br />

Water Fest<br />

Description:<br />
The Maumee RAP sponsored a half-day event at Promenade Park in Downtown<br />
Toledo to help raise awareness and public support. A tour, raft race, poster contest<br />
and public displays were part of the celebration. Significant media attention was<br />
received, including a live remote radio broadcast.<br />
Breakfast Tour of the Maumee River on the Sandpiper Canal Boat<br />
A one-hour cruise hosted by the Maumee RAP <strong>for</strong> its members and partners.<br />
Certificates and plaques were distributed to volunteers and sponsors to recognize<br />
their contributions to Maumee RAP ef<strong>for</strong>ts.<br />

<strong>Clean</strong> Bay Raft Race<br />
Nine teams participated by creating and racing a non-motorized raft and attempt to<br />
float it across the Maumee River in downtown Toledo (approximately ¼-mile). Local<br />
donations were received to assist with prizes <strong>for</strong> speed and creativity.<br />
