Preventive Maintenance<br />

• When working underneath the vehicle without<br />

appropriate safety stands but with the wheels on the<br />

ground (not supported), make sure that (1) the vehicle<br />

is on hard level ground, (2) the parking brake is<br />

applied, (3) all wheels are chocked (front and rear)<br />

and (4) the engine cannot be started. Remove the<br />

ignition key.<br />

• Never start or let the engine run in an enclosed,<br />

unventilated area. Exhaust fumes from the engine<br />

contain carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless<br />

gas. Carbon monoxide can be fatal if inhaled.<br />

WARNING! Wear protective clothing when<br />

handling hydraulic fluid. It is mildly toxic and<br />

can cause skin and eye irritation.<br />

CAUTION: Hydraulic brake fluid may damage<br />

painted surfaces of the vehicle.<br />

Incomplete or improper servicing may cause problems in the<br />

operation of the vehicle. If in doubt about any servicing, have<br />

it done by your Authorized Service Center. Improper maintenance<br />

during the warranty period may also affect the warranty<br />

coverage.<br />

Introduction<br />

Modifying your vehicle can make it unsafe. Some modifications<br />

can affect your vehicle's electrical system, stability, or<br />

other important functions. Before modifying your vehicle,<br />

check with your <strong>Peterbilt</strong> Dealer to make sure it can be done<br />

safely and correctly.<br />

Environmental Protection and Material<br />

Hazards<br />

Some of the ingredients in engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission<br />

and axle oil, engine coolant, diesel fuel, air conditioning<br />

refrigerant (R–134a and PAG oil), batteries, etc., may contaminate<br />

the environment if spilled or not disposed of properly.<br />

Non-compliance with environmental regulations can<br />

result in fines and/or jail terms. Contact your local government<br />

agency for information concerning proper disposal.<br />

WARNING! Diesel engine exhaust and some of<br />

its constituents are known to the State of California<br />

to cause cancer, birth defects, and other<br />

reproductive harm. Other chemicals in this vehicle<br />

are also known to the State of California to<br />

cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproduc-<br />
