23. MULGREW doesn’t receive an answer, so he yanks GINGY from his chair and drags him to a filthy blood red bath. He smashes his skull against it as GINGY screams in pain. MULGREW plunges his head into the water and holds him down. The rest of the crew watch. They don’t share MULGREW’s sadism. He yanks GINGY’s head up. We notice he is trying to avoid getting the dirty water on a new pair of BRIGHT RED TRAINERS. MULGREW. (CONT’D) When did you start your touting? GINGY (terrified) I’m a patriot. I’m just a Volunteer-- MULGREW. When, Gingy? GINGY I swear it... MULGREW. Seven dead at Loughgall, Gingy. Then Gerard Harte, Dessie Grew and all the boys down at Coalisland. The cream of East Tyrone, shot by SAS bastards lying out in the night. And all because a filthy, nasty, dirty little tout was singing like a canary to save his own miserable skin...And that tout, Gingy, was you... GINGY’s P.O.V. as his head goes under. CRASH CUT TO: EXT. A FERRY ON THE IRISH SEA - DAY COLLETTE gazes out across the water. She is on her way home... CUT TO: INT. IRA SAFE HOUSE - SOUTH ARMAGH - DAY GINGY is back in the chair. MULGREW has put on a pair of leather gloves.
24. MULGREW. Who signed you up, Gingy? No one. GINGY MULGREW strikes him hard. GINGY (CONT’D) It’s true, so help me God! MULGREW. Gingy, your wife says you’re out every Wednesday night. So where is it that you go? GINGY (crying now) I don’t know. I-- MULGREW. So, she’s lying is she? It’s your wife who’s the tout? No...no. GINGY MULGREW. I’m going to ask you once more; who signed you up? GINGY No one signed me. No one. MULGREW adjusts his gloves. MULGREW. We have time, Gingy. All the time in the world... EXT. DUBLIN STREET - DAY. COLLETTE walks along a cobbled street. Attractive shops are full of Christmas decorations. She seems lost in thought as we hear; RYAN (V.O.) Say as little as possible in the debrief in Dublin. They’ll run the same questions when you get up to Belfast and cross-check your answers, so don’t allow them to draw you out. We watch through the window as COLLETTE greets a young man inside.
