5. COLLETTE’s P.O.V as she weaves through the throng of sightseers and tears onto Westminster Bridge. She stops, heaves the rucksack over the side into the water. Runs again -- around parliament -- as COP cars FLOOD in from all directions. EXT. NEARBY STREET - CONTINUOUS. Millbank. VOICE (ON THE RADIO) RYAN (into the radio) Not there! EXT. MILLBANK - CONTINUOUS. COLLETTE still running. She turns right, left. Now in a quiet back street... She SLOWS TO A WALK. Looks for a place to hide. A beat. Maybe she’s going to make it. A CAR screams down the street towards her. She swings around. Another CAR behind. Men in raincoats, pistols raised. DETECTIVE 1 Get in, Miss McVeigh. They push her roughly inside. Both cars tear away. INT. PADDINGTON GREEN POLICE STATION - NIGHT DAVID RYAN takes a cup of coffee from a machine and walks into the OBSERVATION ROOM. He watches through the glass as two plain-clothes detectives interrogate COLLETTE. INT. CELL - CONTINUOUS. One cop sits, another stands. DETECTIVE 1 (SITTING) When did you leave Belfast, sweetheart?
6. No answer. The cop flips open a file on the desk and pushes across a photograph of COLLETTE hugging her two kids in the rear garden of a terrace house. They are MARK, five, and CATHERINE, 3. He smiles bitterly. DETECTIVE 1 (CONT’D) December 8th, you tell your kids you have to go away for work. DETECTIVE 1 (CONT’D) Train to Dublin. He spins around a picture of her seated in the carriage. Then more photos in quick succession; A beat. DETECTIVE 1 (CONT’D) The ferry to Fishguard. South to a safe house in Oxford. Two days to kick your heels. Winchester. The courier leaves you a rucksack, two kilos of semtex and a TPU. DETECTIVE 1 (CONT’D) Onto the train. Flick the timer and we’re ready to go. One more photograph. No answer. DETECTIVE 1 (CONT’D) You want to take a look at who you’d have blown to bits, sweetheart? Mothers...kids...Or you going to tell us the usual shit warning would have made it all right? DETECTIVE 1 (CONT’D) (leaning forward, aggressive) Look at them! DETECTIVE 2 You want to tell us why, Miss Mcveigh? Why now? COP 1 pulls another file from beneath the desk. There’s not much to it. DETECTIVE 1 Twenty years and this is all we’ve got.
