25. INT. DUBLIN PUB - CONTINUOUS. COLLETTE takes a seat opposite him in the corner. Despite herself, she looks NERVOUS... RYAN (V.O.) You hid out in the park and didn’t call in because the whole of London was crawling with cops... EXT. DUBLIN STREET - CONTINUOUS. Through the window again. The two are still at their table. RYAN (V.O.) It’ll only be a kid in Dublin, so remember who you are. Make it clear this is beneath you. Tell him to take it up with your brother if he has a problem... INT. IRA SAFE HOUSE - SOUTH ARMAGH - DAY GINGY has been broken and is sitting in a chair, soaking wet, freezing cold and sobbing audibly. MULGREW sits. MULGREW. It’s okay, Gingy. We’re not going to hurt you any more. MULGREW. (CONT’D) (sighs) This is shit Gingy, right? Shit, shit, shit. A fine volunteer like you, lovely family...pretty wife, the wee kids... GINGY is still sobbing. MULGREW. (CONT’D) So here’s what we’ll do; you’re gonna’ cast your mind back to the beginning. And then you’re going to tell me everything. And after that, the pain will stop... SMASH CUT TO: A TRAIN HURTLING THROUGH THE IRISH COUNTRYSIDE CUT TO:
26. INT. A TRAIN APPROACHING BELFAST STATION- DAY COLLETTE is almost home. We watch smudged images of the city pass by through a rain-soaked window. `On the seat beside her a newspaper headline shouts ‘PEACE IN OUR TIME? LONDON AND DUBLIN HAIL ‘DOWNING STREET DECLARATION’.’ EXT. SOUTH ARMAGH - DAY A van guns down a dirt track in the driving rain. The door opens and GINGY HUGHES is pulled out. MULGREW’S men drag him into a nearby field. MULGREW walks behind, trying not to get his trainers muddy. GINGY knows what’s coming. He’s a mumbling, gibbering wreck. EXT. BELFAST STREET - DAY COLLETTE leaves the station. The rain stops. The sun shines. She’s close to home now and can’t contain herself. She starts to run... EXT. SOUTH ARMAGH - DAY GINGY is on his knees by a ditch. MULGREW holds a pistol to his head. GINGY (crying) Please...for my kids sake... MULGREW. You think we should forgive ye, Gingy? GINGY I beg you... MULGREW touches GINGY’s shoulder paternally. This is going to be all right. Even MULGREW’S crew look relieved. The tension eases. We’re TIGHT on each face in turn, ending with MULGREW. CLOSE again on the youngest of the crew. He looks barely old enough to be out. He SMILES nervously. MULGREW pulls the trigger. GINGY slumps forward, dead. MULGREW turns away. He looks irritated and checks his shoes to make sure there is no blood on them.
