ALLEN
I don’t believe in conspiracy
theories.
BRIAN ALLEN hasn’t got this far in Northern Ireland’s
shadowy war by giving a straight answer to a straight
question. He scans the street one last time.
ALLEN (CONT’D)
(into the radio)
Let’s go!
The driver guns the car away. We are close on RYAN’s face
to witness his humiliation.
ALLEN (CONT’D)
Time to pull your little friend
in, Mr Ryan. And she’d better
have a damned good excuse...
EXT. THE FALLS ROAD - BELFAST - DAY
We pick up COLLETTE as she approaches her son’s school...
INT. PRIMARY SCHOOL - A MINUTE LATER
We’re CLOSE on MARK’s face as he waits for his mum in the
classroom and catch his DELIGHT as she arrives. Watching
this reunion, the HEADTEACHER approaches. She has a kindly
manner.
HEADTEACHER
Miss. McVeigh, I’m sorry to
trouble you. Could you spare a
few minutes?
It’s obvious she means without MARK.
COLLETTE
(touching his shoulder)
I won’t be long.
The head takes her down to an office. She produces a
child’s picture. It depicts a man with a gun lying in a
pool of blood.
HEADTEACHER
I thought you should see this.
It’s not the first.
COLLETTE stares at the painting. She doesn’t look like she
really wants to deal with it.
