ALLEN is grim-faced now.<br />

ALLEN<br />

I’ve known worse outcomes.<br />

RYAN stares at him. He can’t quite believe he heard that.<br />

RYAN<br />

ALLEN puts down his glass.<br />

Listen to me. When I started out<br />

in this game, I was based in a<br />

small town in East Tyrone. And my<br />

friend Jim introduced me to a<br />

bright, funny lad called Joe, who<br />

worked with him on a building<br />

site. Now Joe was from a large,<br />

poor catholic family and often<br />

came to work without any lunch.<br />

So my friend Jim, who was a bighearted<br />

fella’, used to get his<br />

wife to make up an extra sandwich<br />

every day to share. The two<br />

became close; real pals.<br />
