EXT. A SNOWY HILLTOP FIELD IN SOUTH ARMAGH - DAY
GERRY MCVEIGH and the rebel IRA commander DECLAN FOX stand
on the edge of a wood. FOX has a shotgun under his arm.
He’s been killing rabbits. COLLETTE stands nearby, out of
earshot.
FOX
It’s sedition. You’ll get no
support here.
GERRY
It’s not support I want. I need
to know there’ll be no witch-hunt
when it’s done.
FOX raises the shotgun, so that it points at GERRY’s
stomach.
FOX
You’re a traitor, McVeigh, and I
ought to blow your balls right
back to Belfast...
GERRY
(without flinching)
It’s not me who wants to sell us
out.
FOX
Our leaders have sweated blood on
this. So who do you speak for?
GERRY
All those who can no longer speak
for themselves and deserved
something better.
FOX
Like what?
GERRY
Like a result that bears a
passing resemblance to what we’ve
been fighting for.
FOX smiles slyly and lowers his gun.
He glances at COLLETTE, starts walking. GERRY falls in
beside him.
FOX
I’ll keep it to myself. I’ll give
you that much chance, if you’ve
the balls to go through with it.
If you act quickly, if it’s as
big as you say, maybe you’ll
carry people. Maybe.
