And yet it is not so. The world is full of misfittings, of people<br />

who say 'we do not fit in, and we shall not fit in.' We have seen<br />

the enormous cohesive force of capital: how, through the state,<br />

through our own practices, above all through money, it draws<br />

us back in to its logic, finds a way of slotting our rebellions into<br />

the implacable jigsaw of the system. And yet, there they are,<br />

everywhere, these pieces that simply do not fitin. Over and over<br />

again, logic tells us that our rebellions are useless, that we must<br />

submit, and yet there they are, all over the place, these insanities<br />

that push towards a different world, these dignities that will not<br />

wait until after the revolution.<br />

And there they are, and so it is, and so it must be. So it must<br />

be, because there is not only a logic of capital but an anti-logic of<br />

humanity, of refusal, of movement in-against-and-beyond capital.<br />

Rebellion is inseparable from obedience, misfitting from fitting.<br />

We start from the momentum of rage and hope and creativity.<br />

We try to break the constraints of the society that oppresses us, to<br />

overflow the domination that suffocates us, to create something<br />

else. It is not a question of purity, for any crack will reproduce<br />

the cracked within it. It is a question of movement, of direction.<br />

Movement is what matters. The possibility of the cracks is in<br />

their moving.<br />

Think of occupied factories or cooperatives, for example. In<br />

isolation, the taking of a factory into workers' control is of<br />

limited significance: all the pressures of the market will tend to<br />

impose constraints that limit the extent to which the workers<br />

can radically alter the nature of their activity within the factory<br />

or enterprise. It is as part of a movement of struggle that the<br />

occupation of the factory becomes important, because then it<br />

becomes possible to open up new forms of relations with the<br />

users of the products, so that work is not just for an anonymous<br />

market but oriented towards the satisfaction of certain social<br />

needs. The workers' occupation of the factory does not create<br />

a stable non-capitalist space, but it may be a significant part<br />

of a movement against capital and against the imposition of<br />

capitalist discipline. The important thing is to understand this<br />

present intensity, the factory occupation, as a moving and open<br />

present, not as a closed, isolated instant. Workers take control<br />

of the factory: that is important, irrespective of what happens<br />
