Assessment Center<br />

<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Rocks</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> assesses the<br />

basic-skills proficiency of all new students<br />

who plan to enroll in courses leading to<br />

degrees or certificates. If you previously<br />

enrolled at the college while still attending<br />

high school, you are considered a new students<br />

when you enter the college after graduation.<br />

The COMPASS (Computerized<br />

Assessment) takes approximately two hours<br />

and is available free of charge on a walk-in,<br />

first-come, first-served basis. Test times are<br />

listed in the current schedule.<br />

You may satisfy assessment requirements<br />

by submitting qualifying ACT or SAT score<br />

reports to the Assessment Center, or by providing<br />

evidence of a college degree (twoyear<br />

or four-year).<br />

You must meet one of the assessment<br />

requirements described above to determine<br />

your need for basic skills remedial coursework<br />

and/or to determine appropriate course<br />

placement.<br />

Career Planning and<br />

Workplace Experience<br />

If you are planning for your first career, a<br />

career change, or want to enhance your<br />

existing job skills, <strong>Red</strong> <strong>Rocks</strong> Career<br />

Development specialists can help. Using<br />

career and personal interest inventories and<br />

computerized information, they can help<br />

you select what you need from among hundreds<br />

of <strong>options</strong>. They can also help you<br />

take advantage of <strong>Red</strong> <strong>Rocks</strong>’ Career<br />

Development Seminar and the Colorado<br />

Career Information System (COCIS).<br />

Finally, Career Development specialists can<br />

help with referrals through consultation with<br />

faculty and community resources as well as<br />

other colleges and universities.<br />

ESL/Foreign<br />

Language Lab<br />

The ESL/Foreign Language Lab offers CD-<br />

ROM, videotape and audio cassette materials<br />

to help students and staff learn 101<br />

world languages. Tutoring is available in<br />

Spanish, French, German, and English as a<br />

Second Language (ESL). The lab also maintains<br />

a resource library of world beat music<br />

CD’s, foreign-language movies with English<br />

subtitles, and the world news.<br />

Inter-institutional<br />

Registration<br />

Admissions can assist you with concurrent<br />

registration at the University of Colorado at<br />

Denver or Metropolitan State <strong>College</strong> of<br />

Denver. International students must meet the<br />

host institution’s English proficiency<br />

requirements.<br />

Readmission of<br />

Former Students<br />

If you are returning to <strong>Red</strong> <strong>Rocks</strong> after an<br />

absence of more than one year, you must<br />

apply for re-admission. If you have earned<br />

credit at another college in the interim and<br />

are pursuing a degree or certificate, you<br />

must also submit a transcript prior to your<br />

last semester. Registration is contingent<br />

upon receipt of all required documents,<br />

which become property of the college.<br />

Transcripts<br />

If you need your <strong>Red</strong> <strong>Rocks</strong> transcript to be<br />

forwarded to a third party, a Transcript<br />

Request form is available in Admissions.<br />

Students may request five free transcripts<br />

per semester. Extra transcripts can be purchased<br />

for $5 per copy. Transcripts will not<br />

be provided for students who have not fulfilled<br />

all financial obligations to the college.<br />

Transfer of Credits<br />

The Colorado <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> System<br />

launched a common course numbering and<br />

common competency project to improve<br />

student transfer and to ensure curriculum<br />

quality across our system. The project will<br />

not jeopardize student credit and transfer.<br />

Course numbers and competencies will be<br />

posted online at www.rightchoice.comand<br />

www.cterc.cccoes.edu/cccns as they are<br />

completed.<br />

1. Initial transcript evaluation is done in<br />

Student Records.Transcripts must be<br />

sent from a previous college to <strong>Red</strong><br />

<strong>Rocks</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

2. Grade point average (GPA) from<br />

transfer institutions is not calculated<br />

into the <strong>Red</strong> <strong>Rocks</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> GPA.<br />

3. The college reserves the right to validate<br />

and examine all credits to determine<br />

if they are obsolete. If so, you may<br />

be required to update the credit.<br />

4. The college will accept transfer credit<br />

only from post-secondary institutions<br />

accredited by one of the six regional<br />

accrediting associations.Credits earned<br />

in a Colorado community college that<br />

are applicable to a specific AAS degree<br />

or certificate will be accepted in an<br />

equivalent program.<br />
