ARL 113 Concrete<br />

Consolidation/Patching<br />

This course studies the basics of concrete<br />

placement and consolidation. Topics include<br />

ready mix types, strength, admixtures; weather<br />

and types of pours; height and width of<br />

wall; concrete vibrators and other tools; safe<br />

and effective pour set-up; tie hole patching<br />

basics, rubbing walls and other post-pour<br />

activities. The use of patching materials; scaffold<br />

erection safety; flat work tools; patching<br />

materials; ceiling work; grinders, chipping<br />

hammers and brushing machines; concrete<br />

curing; and safety measures are also covered<br />

in detail.<br />

ARL 114 Forklift and Bobcat<br />

Training<br />

This course studies the basics of operation,<br />

safety features, daily inspections, maintenance<br />

schedules and attachments. Students are<br />

expected to identify and understand safety<br />

features, daily inspection points and safe<br />

operating procedures upon completion of this<br />

course.<br />

ARL 115 Scissor Lift/Boom Lift<br />

Training<br />

This course covers the basic operation and<br />

safety of different types of lifts. The proper<br />

use of fall-protection systems on boom lifts,<br />

daily inspections and maintenance schedules<br />

are studied.<br />

ARL 116 Hand, Power and<br />

Pneumatic Tools/Compaction<br />

Operations<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

This course studies how to identify and properly<br />

use basic hand, power and pneumatic<br />

tools. The use of hand tools versus power<br />

tools or pneumatic tools, care and maintenance,<br />

visual inspections, safety (including<br />

GFCI requirements) and the retirement tools<br />

are explored. OSHA standards required for<br />

operation of pneumatic tools and proper startup<br />

methods are covered. This course also<br />

teaches how to identify hand compaction<br />

equipment and choose the correct equipment<br />

for the job; fueling procedures; visual inspection<br />

of equipment, as well as what personal<br />

protective gear to wear. Proper compaction<br />

techniques are also reviewed.<br />

RELATED MASONRY<br />

ARM 111 and 112 Masonry I<br />

(Year I)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

This course introduces students to the masonry<br />

trade. The course covers the history of the<br />

trade, safety, tools and equipment, masonry<br />

math, mortar joints and applications, and<br />

brick materials layout. The ability to lift 80<br />

pounds and climb a 25-foot ladder is required.<br />

ARM 121 and 122 Masonry II<br />

(Year II)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

Prerequisite:Successful completion of ARM<br />

111/112 or permission of coordinator<br />

This course covers materials handling and<br />

storage, advanced laying techniques, control<br />

joints, corners and poles, flashing and lintels,<br />

elevated masonry, commercial and residential<br />

drawings, all-weather masonry, wall insulation,<br />

openings, columns, sample panels, and<br />

prisms. Evaluation ends the second year of<br />

Masonry.<br />

ARM 131 and 132 Masonry III<br />

(Year III)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ARM<br />

121/122 or permission of coordinator<br />

This course covers safety panels and prisms,<br />

brick creativity, stonework, residential masonry,<br />

glass block, acid brick and refractories,<br />

structured glazed tile, repair and restoration,<br />

panel construction, welding and brick paving.<br />

ARP - APPRENTICE-<br />

RELATED PLUMBING<br />

ARP 111 and 112 Plumber and<br />

Pipefitter (Year I)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

This course is an introduction to the plumbing<br />

trade and covers topics including plumbing<br />

careers, trade regulations and safe and effective<br />

use of tools. First aid, OSHA, plumbing<br />

math, related science and installation practices<br />

are studied as well. Beginning blueprint reading<br />

completes year one of Plumbing and<br />

Pipefitting. The ability to lift 80 pounds and<br />

climb a 25 foot ladder is required.<br />

ARP 121 and 122 Plumber and<br />

Pipefitter (Year II)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ARP<br />

111/112 or permission of coordinator<br />

This course teaches the specific aspects of<br />

water piping materials, additional plumbing<br />

math, sewage disposal, blueprint reading,<br />

shielded welding and water properties. Safety<br />

and rigging concepts ends the second year of<br />

this course.<br />

ARP 131 and 132 Plumber and<br />

Pipefitter (Year III)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ARP<br />

121/122 or permission of coordinator<br />

This course covers additional installation<br />

practices and trade math, and explores fuel<br />

piping, gas codes studies and energy and temperature<br />

transfer. Aspects of water treatment<br />

and further blueprint reading completes this<br />

course.<br />

ARP 141 and 142 Plumber and<br />

Pipefitter (Year IV)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ARP<br />

131/132 or permission of coordinator<br />

This course covers aspects of drainage, fuel<br />

gas piping, sizing, waste systems, one- and<br />

two-pipe systems, and hydraulics. Shop drawings,<br />

plumbing code definitions and portable<br />

water systems complete this course.<br />

ARP 151 and 152 Plumber and<br />

Pipefitter (Year V)<br />

4 Credits Each<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ARP<br />

141/142 or permission of coordinator<br />

This course teaches written and verbal communication,<br />

modern materials, advanced blueprint<br />

reading, code problems, code differences,<br />

code interpretation, contracts, tools,<br />

safety, inventory, medical gas, cross connection,<br />

and leadership. American Disabilities<br />

Act (ADA) and how to apply OSHA standards<br />

complete this course.<br />
