Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy<br />

P.O.S.T. Certification<br />

This certificate program exceeds the Colorado Peace Officers<br />

Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements for peace officer entry<br />

level training. You will earn 27 credits during this intense course of<br />

study. Twenty-one of these credits may be used to meet the Law<br />

Enforcement Emphasis Area requirement of the associate of applied<br />

science degree. This is not an open enrollment offering. You must<br />

make separate application to the academy. See the academy director<br />

Victim Assistance Direct Service<br />

You must have strong writing skills. A writing sample will be evaluatedby<br />

the English Department. You must write at the ENG 121 level.<br />

You also need to be computer literate. If you do not have experience<br />

using a computer, you will need to take:<br />

CIS 118 Microcomputer Applications (IBM) 5<br />

If you are computer literate, you must demonstrate computerability prior<br />

to CIS 118 being waived. Prospective students must take the ASSET<br />

basic-skills assessment test. If you score 43 or higher on the writing<br />

skills portion, you need to take ENG 121. If you score 42 or lower on<br />

the writing skills portion, you need to take ENG 105 prior to ENG 121.<br />

Writing ability and computer literacy are prerequisites to receiving the<br />

certificate.<br />
