PLU 112 Residential Plumbing<br />
4 Credits<br />
Prerequisite: PLU 101, 105, 110 or<br />
permission of the instructor<br />
The student will learn how to design and<br />
install residential plumbing systems. (Course<br />
does not cover DWV systems: see PLU 110.)<br />
Students will work in the shop installing systems,<br />
and in the classroom designing systems.<br />
Topics include the application of code<br />
requirements, fuel piping systems, water piping<br />
systems, rough-in measurements and<br />
installation practices. Students will also learn<br />
to install components, such as water heaters,<br />
tub/shower valves, a variety of shower enclosures<br />
and other fixtures. (Offered fall semester<br />
only)<br />
PLU 116 Soldering and Brazing Skill<br />
0.5 Credit<br />
This course allows the student to learn proper<br />
soldering and brazing skills when joining<br />
copper tube and fittings. Topics include safety,<br />
proper soldering and brazing skills, how to<br />
assess joint quality and basic center-to-center<br />
measurement. The skills learned in this course<br />
are helpful to plumbers preparing to take the<br />
Colorado practical plumbing test.<br />
PLU 118 Plumbing Service<br />
4 Credits<br />
This course teaches allow the student how to<br />
diagnose and repair common problems associated<br />
with plumbing components and systems.<br />
Topics includes faucet repair, water<br />
heater replacement and repair, drain cleaning,<br />
water closet repair, piping repairs, finding the<br />
source of leaks and evaluating problems for<br />
repair or replacement. Students will learn<br />
customer relations and communication skills.<br />

PLU 200 Backflow Prevention<br />
Certification<br />
3 Credits<br />
This course is designed to prepare students<br />
with information and procedures for the<br />
development, implementation, maintenance<br />
and enforcement of backflow prevention<br />
practices pursuant to federal and state regulation<br />
pertaining to cross-connection control.<br />
The information in this course also prepares<br />
students to take the backflow, cross-connection<br />
test.<br />
PLU 202 Backflow Prevention<br />
Re-Certification<br />

Prerequisite: A current Colorado Cross<br />
Connection ControlTechnician Certification<br />
This course is for technicians who have a current<br />
Colorado Cross Connection Control<br />
Certification and need to renew the certification.<br />
The course will review current state and<br />
federal regulations applicable to re-certification.<br />
PLU 206 Hot Water Heating Systems<br />
4 Credits<br />
Prerequisite: PLU 105; AHR 103, 105 or permission<br />
of the instructor<br />
This course covers the theory of operation<br />
behind these systems, as well as installation,<br />
maintenance and repair. The course also<br />
examines air elimination, circulator pump and<br />
pipe sizing. Boiler and heat convertor sizing<br />
are discussed.<br />
PLU 207 Basic Solar Energy<br />
3 Credits<br />
Prerequisites: PLU 105 and 206<br />
This course includes drawing and<br />
installation of domestic solar water<br />
heating systems.<br />
PLU 208 Advanced Solar Energy<br />
3 Credits<br />
This course includes solar panel<br />
construction, installing complete solar heating<br />
or domestic hot water systems, with the study<br />
of the variables and flexibility of the system.<br />
PLU 212 Commercial and<br />
Multi-Story Projects<br />
3 Credits<br />
Prerequisite:PLU 110<br />
This course introduces students to commercial<br />
and multi-story projects. Installations in<br />
commercial work and code applications for<br />
these structures are reviewed.<br />
PLU 216 Uniform Plumbing Code<br />
4 Credits<br />
Prerequisite:PLU 110 or permission of<br />
instructor<br />
The information in this course is designed to<br />
assist students in passing the plumbing licensing<br />
examinations for the state of Colorado.<br />
This course reviews and interprets the<br />
Uniform Plumbing Code and the Colorado<br />
State Plumbing code. The course also reviews<br />
the need for enforcement of the Uniform<br />
Plumbing Code.<br />
PLU225 Technical Project<br />
3-12Credits<br />
This course enables students to participate in<br />
individual study on a special project which is<br />
related to the plumbing program. This technical<br />
project consists of a written and approved<br />
proposal andscheduled progress reports.<br />
PLU 255 Medical Gas<br />
2-3 Credits<br />
This course pursues medical gas certification<br />
and brazing testing. Specialty training<br />
includes anesthesia, respiratory and inhalation<br />
therapies. Medical gas system components,<br />
medical gas compressors and NFPA standards<br />
are examined. This course includes the training<br />
time required to meet the Colorado<br />
Examining Board of Plumbers requirements.<br />

This course is a survey of the discipline of<br />
political science, including political philosophy<br />
and ideology, democratic and nondemocratic<br />
governments and processes, and international<br />

POS 111 American Government<br />
(Core)<br />
3 Credits<br />
This course gives students a background in<br />
the U.S. Constitution; the philosophy of<br />
American government; general principles of<br />
the Constitution; federalism; civil liberties;<br />
public opinion and citizen participation; political<br />
parties, interest groups and the electoral<br />
process; and the structure and functions of the<br />
national government.<br />
POS 125 American State and<br />
Local Government<br />
3 Credits<br />
This course studies the structure and function<br />
of state, county and municipal governments,<br />
including their relations with each other and<br />
with the national government. Colorado government<br />
and politics are emphasized.<br />
POS 215 Current Political Issues<br />
1-3 Credits<br />
This course is an in-depth analysis of critical<br />
issues in political science. Topics are determined<br />
