HHP 203 Women’s Holistic Health<br />

This class is designed to aid the professional<br />

nurse to be a more knowledgeable consumer<br />

of gynecological health care and to better<br />

counsel, support, and encourage female<br />

patients toward personal empowerment and<br />

self-care.<br />

HHP 205 Herbology<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

This class will explore the pharmicokinetics<br />

and composition of herbs and their effect on<br />

the body systems. In addition, the habitat, harvesting,<br />

storage and usage of a select group of<br />

herbs will be studied.<br />

HHP 212 Neurolinguistic<br />

Programming II<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

Prerequisite: HHP 110 or permission of<br />

instructor<br />

Neurolinguistic programming can increase<br />

the effectiveness of healing interventions by<br />

developing a clear, individualized communication<br />

pattern with each client allowing for a<br />

desired change to occur. This course will also<br />

include a learning process called “anchoring,”<br />

which is a gentle and respectful method of<br />

change for yourself and others.<br />

HHP 213 Spiritual Role in Health<br />

Care<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

Spirituality is explored, with focus on its<br />

development in individuals through the lifespan.<br />

The healing aspects of various religions<br />

with correlation to the energy system with<br />

Nightingale’s thoughts are presented.<br />

Spiritual assessment and interventions for<br />

client care are covered.<br />

HHP 214 Exploring Your Dreams<br />

1 Credit<br />

This class presents simple tools for dream<br />

recall, recording dreams and uncovering the<br />

many levels of meaning that are found in<br />

every dream. Students will evaluate their<br />

lifestyles and develop an individual concept<br />

of wellness and optimal health by tapping<br />

into their dreams as a source for reducing<br />

stress and increasing spirituality and inner<br />

growth.<br />

HHP 215 The Role of Art in Healing<br />

1 Credit<br />

This course is designed to provide an<br />

overview of the role of visual art in healing.<br />

Content includes both didactic information<br />

and experiential learning. Participants will<br />

learn how the role of art in healing has<br />

evolved over the years and will explore different<br />

models, approaches and focuses of healing<br />

through visual art. A secondary goal of<br />

the course is to help students discover,<br />

through art, things about themselves which<br />

can enhance their professional work.<br />

HHP 216 Humor Playshops: Put Fun<br />

to Work<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

Joy in the workplace is absolutely essential to<br />

motivate employees, combat low morale,<br />

increase productivity and boost the bottom<br />

line. Humor playshops will provide students<br />

with the tools to help disarm explosive situations,<br />

deal with hostile questions and improve<br />

team spirit. The goal is not to teach students<br />

to be funny, but to 1) help students see the<br />

value of humor in their daily practice and 2)<br />

use humor as both a tension reliever and a<br />

safety valve.<br />

HHP 221 High Level Wellness<br />

1 Credit<br />

Positive dimensions of healthy lifestyles are<br />

explored in this practical, informative and<br />

enjoyable course. The student will acquire<br />

health concepts and management skills that<br />

are effective in a variety of work settings.<br />

Techniques to meet the basic needs of illness,<br />

prevention, and burnout will be covered. The<br />

student will have an opportunity to assess<br />

their present lifestyle and the specific steps<br />

needed to achieve positive change.<br />

HHP 222 Self-Hypnosis: The Basics<br />

1 Credit<br />

Your body is only a robot controlled by your<br />

mind/brain. With this course, remove the<br />

mystery that surrounds hypnosis to help yourself.<br />

HHP 223 Hypnosis for Medical<br />

Profession<br />

1 Credit<br />

This course is designed for EMTs, paramedics,<br />

nurses, operating room and emergency<br />

room personnel, or anyone in the medical<br />

profession who has patient contact. The<br />

student will learn how to increase the patient’s<br />

chance of survival, lessen the side effects of<br />

drugs and treatments and help the healing<br />

process.<br />

HHP 224 Massage Therapy<br />

1 Credit<br />

This course will teach hands-on techniques to<br />

complete a full body massage along with integration<br />

of healing touch. Swedish massage<br />

techniques and basic foot reflexology combined<br />

with a complete energy balance will be<br />

performed and experienced by each student.<br />

Guidelines for creating a nurturing, healing<br />

environment, and the use of lotions, oils, and<br />

aromatherapy will be discussed.<br />

HHP 228 Solution Focused<br />

Counseling<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

Students will learn brief interventions, focusing<br />

on solutions. They will practice the effective,<br />

quick, Emotional Freedom Technique<br />

(EFT) to allow themselves and others to<br />

become “unstuck.” EFT combines acupressure<br />

points with hypnotic phrasing. Students<br />

will also play Word Wizard, a delightful way<br />

to find <strong>options</strong> and become skilled with the<br />

language that opens <strong>opportunities</strong>.<br />

HHP 229 Wellness Counseling<br />

1 Credit<br />

This course presents tools to facilitate yourself<br />

and others in the movement toward a<br />

higher level of wellness, including vitality and<br />

a joy of living. Students learn assessment<br />

tools, basic counseling skills, and how to<br />

establish contacts and set goals for change,<br />

methods for evaluation and ongoing growth.<br />

HHP 233 Womansoul and Healing<br />

1 Credit<br />

The history of our contemporary female<br />

experience spirals downward through the<br />

lives of our mothers, our aunts and our grandmothers<br />

to the physical matrix of our primordial<br />

first mother, the Earth herself. Together<br />

we will explore the multiple colors of our rich<br />

feminine tapestry. Through process, ritual and<br />

storytelling we will reweave the broken<br />

threads of the feminine, creating space for<br />

renewal and reaffirmation of the individual<br />

and collective Womansoul.<br />

HHP 236 Dance Therapy and<br />

Healing<br />

0.5 Credit<br />

The American Dance Therapy Association<br />

defines dance therapy as “the psychotherapeutic<br />

uses of movement as a process to further<br />

the cognitive, emotional and physical<br />

integration of the individual.” This workshop<br />

will introduce the theories of Marian<br />

Chace/Group Development, Balanche<br />

Evan/Creative Movement and Mary<br />

Whitehouse/Authentic Movement. Dance<br />

therapy principles can be applied to all caregiver<br />

interactions in which professionals want<br />

to increase empathy and communication.<br />

Participants should come dressed in loose,<br />

comfortable clothing. No prior movement<br />

experience is necessary.<br />
