6. Automatic Playback Redundancy Installation
6.4 States of the Redundancy Controller
Overview
• The Redundancy Controller is the helper application which controls which Playback is Active and
which is Standby. There are 3 possible states of the Redundancy Controller:
- Active
- Standby
- Failure
• The Redundancy Controller communicates its state with the Redundancy Controller on the other Playback
System in the Redundant Pair. The communication of this state and the status of the local Renderer
determine what the state of the Redundancy Controller is set to.
• When the Redundancy Controller initializes, it always starts in Failure mode.
When the Renderer comes online then the status will change to Standby. If the controller determines
this Playback should be the active one it will upgrade its status to Active. This can be determined by
the other Controller transmitting a failed state or by not responding at all which is when the assumption
is made that the other system is not operational.
• The Redundancy Controller will go to a failure state if the Renderer becomes non-responsive or terminates.
• You can switch which Playback is active by forcing the currently active Playback into a standby mode.
This is done by right clicking the Redundancy Controller’s system tray icon (Barco Eye) and clicking
“Force Standby”. If force standby is not enabled then that system is not currently operating as an
Active Playback.
• The current state of the Redundancy Controller can be determined by right clicking the system tray
icon and expanding the “Current State” fly out menu.
• If both Redundancy Controllers are in a standby mode the Primary Playback will activate while the
Standby Playback will remain in standby.
