10. Once you are finished select “apply”, then “OK,” and you should be able to
see the drive, folder, or document on the other computer.
Supplemental Lab or Challenge Activity:
1. Pick one computer to be the computer for your boss. The other will be the
employee. Have only certain folders and documents sharable on the boss’s
computer. Have all drives shared on the employee’s computer. Can your
boss find out where you have been on the Internet?
2. Why do we use a crossover cable? Why wouldn’t a straight through cable
work?
3. Put a dollar sign ($) on the end of a shared file name and see what happens.
So What Have I Learned Here?
In this lab you have learned how to hook up two computers using peer-to-peer
networking and file and print sharing. For this you needed to use your knowledge of
TCP/IP software settings you learned in an earlier lab. In later labs you will be
expanding upon this knowledge to build more complicated networks and more in-depth
file and print sharing exercises.
