In the USA, doxorubicin is available in a pegylated (stealth) liposome,
Doxil® (Sequus Pharmaceuticals, Menlo Park, CA). Although this formulation
of the drug is expensive, it has been shown to decrease
cardiotoxicity, prolong drug circulation times and subsequent antitumor
activity. The current recommended dosage of this product is
1.0 mg/kg intravenously every 3 weeks.
DOGS
• 30 mg/m 2 , to a total cumulative dosage not greater than
240 mg/m 2
• The cumulative dosage is limited by development of dilated
cardiomyopathy
• The meter-squared calculation has been shown to overdose
