the development of the Amazonía of Colombia and Brazil, the objectives def<strong>in</strong>ed by the Plan, for the region<br />

<strong>in</strong> study, can be synthesized <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g way: (1) Improvement of the standard of life of the population,<br />

generat<strong>in</strong>g productive activities and sources of work, as well as the physical <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>in</strong>stallation and<br />

basic, compatible economic partner with the aspirations of the natural <strong>in</strong>habitants, resources and the<br />

ecological conditions of the zone. (2) Identification of the potential use of the natural resources of the zone<br />

with <strong>in</strong>tentions of ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed development, to consolidate the present occupation and to orient the future<br />

establishments, avoid<strong>in</strong>g the degradation of environment and (3) Provision of the social services and adjustment<br />

of the basic <strong>in</strong>frastructure to guarantee the improvement of the quality of life of the population located<br />

<strong>in</strong> the area of the Plan.<br />

Programa de acción <strong>in</strong>tegrado peruanoboliviano or PeruBolivia Integrated Action Program (PAIPB). In<br />

accordance with the objectives, policies, and programs <strong>in</strong> the development plans of both countries, the<br />

regional objectives for the study area can be summarized as follows: (1) Full <strong>in</strong>corporation of the area <strong>in</strong>to<br />

the economic and productive activity of Bolivia and Peru (2) Improvement of the standard of liv<strong>in</strong>g through<br />

the creation of productive activities and sources of employment and the <strong>in</strong>stallation of appropriate physical<br />

and socioeconomic <strong>in</strong>frastructure. (3) Effective occupation of the territory based on susta<strong>in</strong>ed long-term<br />

models of production that take the local ecology <strong>in</strong>to account and have the active participation of the<br />

residents <strong>in</strong> the development process (4) Identification of natural resources potentially useful for development<br />

purposes (5) Substantial improvement of the territorial, social, legal, economic and ecological aspects of<br />

UNDP Small Grant Project<br />

Reforestation, Agroforestry and Environmental Education on Half the Watershed of the Macasias River. The<br />

project has <strong>in</strong>creased the forest cover on the higher and section of the Macasías river watershed, through<br />

reforestation of native species and establishment of agroforestry practices. The participants have implemented<br />

an environmental education program.<br />
