Salt Marsh System (TDPS System)<br />
Between October 1989 and June 1993 the Governments of Bolivia and Peru, work<strong>in</strong>g through the<br />
SUBCOMILAGO, drew up this TDPS System. In December 1992 the Governments of Bolivia and Peru<br />
created the Autonomous B<strong>in</strong>ational TDPS System Authority for the TDPS, which began operat<strong>in</strong>g through a<br />
Transition Committee <strong>in</strong> July 1993.<br />

GEF IW project: Environmental Protection of the Rio de la Plata and Its Maritime Front<br />
Pollution Prevention and Control and Habitat Restoration. The project will contribute to the mitigation of<br />
current and emergent transboundary threats to the waterbody by assist<strong>in</strong>g Argent<strong>in</strong>a and Uruguay to prepare<br />
a Strategic Action Programme as a framework for address<strong>in</strong>g the most imm<strong>in</strong>ent transboundary issues. The<br />
specific objectives <strong>in</strong>clude address<strong>in</strong>g of issues deal<strong>in</strong>g with the riparian population, and local water user<br />
groups; to develop mechanisms to aid <strong>in</strong> decreas<strong>in</strong>g the pollution load of Río de la Plata; to develop and<br />
improve local coord<strong>in</strong>ation, cooperation, and environmental management strategies and tools; to develop<br />
<strong>in</strong>tegrated geographical and management <strong>in</strong>formation systems; and develop better mechanisms for environmental<br />
susta<strong>in</strong>ability and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of environmental managers.<br />

Everglades Pantanal Initiative (EPI)<br />
This is a virtual meet<strong>in</strong>g place for the Pantanal Matogrossense (Brazil-Bolivia-Paraguay) and the Florida<br />
Everglades (USA) <strong>in</strong> the hope of gather<strong>in</strong>g various sites and documents concern<strong>in</strong>g these two magnificent<br />
ecosystems and facilitat<strong>in</strong>g any research <strong>in</strong> support of these tenets. Proposed and facilitated by the Florida<br />
Center for Environmental Studies, the Brazilian Institute for Agricultural Research, Ecología em Ação (ECOA),<br />
the Secretariat of Environment of Mato Grosso do Sul, and Everglades National Park. Anybody with <strong>in</strong>terest<br />
