UNDP/GEF Danube regional project (DRP)<br />

The DPR aims to reinforce regional cooperation of the Danube countries and support development of national<br />

policies and legislation and the definition of priority actions for pollution control in order to ensure<br />

common approach to protection of international waters, sustainable management of natural resources and<br />

biodiversity. The DPR is implementing 22 project components in total.<br />

Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, Ukraine Date: 2001-2006<br />

GEF IW project: Strategic Partnership for Nutrient Reduction in the Danube River and Black Sea - World<br />

Bank-GEF Nutrient Reduction Investment Fund: Tranche 3.<br />

The World Bank-GEF Investment Fund (IF) is the investment arm of the GEF Strategic Partnership on the<br />

Black Sea/Danube Basin which also funds two regional projects, the Black Sea Ecosystem Recovery Project<br />

for the Black Sea littoral countries and the Danube Regional Project in the Danube Basin, both focusing<br />

mainly on capacity building activities.<br />

Participating countries: Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary,<br />

Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine<br />

GEF IW project: Transfer of Environmentally-sound Technology (TEST) to Reduce Transboundary Pollution<br />

in the Danube River Basin<br />

The project’s objective is to build capacity in existing cleaner production institutions to apply the UNIDO test<br />

procedure. The project will demonstrate ways to reduce pollution while remaining financially viable. The<br />

project includes the transfer of this technology to 20 pilot enterprises that are contributing to transboundary<br />

pollution, primarily nutrients, in the Danube River basin and Black Sea.<br />
