Industrial sector<br />

The industrial sector Public Enterprises in Sri Lanka play<br />

a vital role in the economy. There are 12 PEs that carry out<br />

industrial functions having a net worth Rs.4,642 million<br />

in <strong>2008</strong>. Eight industrial PEs were pr<strong>of</strong>itable while 4 PEs<br />

continued to incur losses in <strong>2008</strong>. Lanka Mineral S<strong>and</strong>s,<br />

Lanka Phosphate, Paranthan Chemicals & Manthai Salt<br />

contributed Rs.43.6 million as Dividends to the Treasury in<br />

<strong>2008</strong>.<br />
