Sector wise commitments for the year <strong>2008</strong><br />

In year <strong>2008</strong>, the highest commitment <strong>of</strong> the World Bank<br />

assistance was for the road sector <strong>and</strong> the second highest<br />

was for the irrigation sector, US$ 98 million (35 percent) <strong>and</strong><br />

US$ 65 million (23 percent) respectively.<br />

Dam Safety <strong>and</strong> Water Resources <strong>Planning</strong> (DSWRPP) – US$<br />

Infrastructure <strong>and</strong> Housing Development Project-Puttlam –<br />

e- Sri Lanka Development project (US$ 53 mn)<br />

The project has been designed in a way to take the dividends<br />

<strong>of</strong> Information <strong>and</strong> Communication Technology (ICT) to<br />

every village <strong>and</strong> every citizen in Sri Lanka.<br />

Economic Reform TA Project (US$ 15mn)<br />

Empowering Poor Women & Girls Project (US$ 1.98 mn)<br />

As part <strong>of</strong> this project, ICTA has successfully established<br />

over 570 Nenasala centers isl<strong>and</strong>-wide which has received<br />

a high priority under Mahinda Chinthana. In addition, the<br />

Re-engineering Government component is picking up pace<br />

deploying systems for efficient delivery <strong>of</strong> Government<br />

services. With the assistance <strong>of</strong> Government <strong>of</strong> Korea,<br />

1325 Government agencies were connected to the Lanka<br />

Government Hub. Further, Government <strong>of</strong> Korea provided<br />

another US$ 6.6 on concessional terms for the phase 11 <strong>of</strong><br />

Lanka Government Network project to facilitate connection<br />

<strong>of</strong> another 150 Government organizations.<br />
