employment opportunists has been created in 16 districts<br />

during <strong>2008</strong> as follows.<br />

Table 7.17 provides the details <strong>of</strong> the progress by Districts<br />

during the period <strong>of</strong> May 16th <strong>2008</strong> to 31st December<br />

<strong>2008</strong>. Kurunagala approved the highest number <strong>of</strong> loans<br />

<strong>and</strong> followed by K<strong>and</strong>y <strong>and</strong> Badulla Districts approving<br />

same number <strong>of</strong> loans. In terms <strong>of</strong> the amount disbursed<br />

Kurunagala District accounts for Rs.133.2 mn where<br />

as Matara <strong>and</strong> K<strong>and</strong>y contributed 93.4 mn <strong>and</strong> 75 mn<br />

respectively. This trend shows that K<strong>and</strong>y, Badulla, Galle ,<br />

Matara <strong>and</strong> Ratnapura Districts have contributed around 60<br />

percent out <strong>of</strong> total disbursement since the loan seems to be<br />

more attractive in the tea sector.<br />
