Estate Infrastructure Development<br />

Several projects were implemented focusing on the plantation<br />

sector with a view to upgrade the living st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>of</strong> people<br />

in plantations in Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ratnapura, Kegalle<br />

<strong>and</strong> Kalutara Districts. These included programmes to<br />

upgrade health <strong>and</strong> educational facilities, estate housing,<br />

estate roads <strong>and</strong> bridges, water supply <strong>and</strong> sanitation,<br />

vocational training at a cost <strong>of</strong> Rs. 585 million, benefiting<br />

251,700 estate sector people.<br />
