By way of example and without limiting the foregoing, all public spaces,<br />

including student residences; academic, athletic, and social facilities;<br />

athletic fields; and the riding center are weapons-free areas.<br />

A “weapon” is here defined as any pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, bow, or<br />

other device designed or intended to propel a missile of any kind; or any<br />

switchblade knife, ballistic knife, sword or other bladed weapon or spear.<br />

Special Provisions:<br />

Weapon Storage: <strong>Student</strong>s and guests arriving on campus with weapons must<br />

proceed immediately to the Department of Safety where they may securely<br />

store these weapons for the duration their stays on campus.<br />

Hunting: Hunting is allowed on campus only during strictly limited times with<br />

a <strong>College</strong>-issued permit. Hunters with these permits may use firearms and<br />

hunting bows in designated zones adhering to the restrictions of the permit.<br />

Non-Residential <strong>Student</strong> Information<br />

Non-Residential <strong>Student</strong>s are important members of the community and are<br />

encouraged to take advantage of all the resources and opportunities at the<br />

<strong>College</strong>. The Non-Residential <strong>Student</strong> Lounge is located on the lower level of<br />

Dew Hall and is available for studying and relaxing. A kitchen is easily<br />

accessible as well. Keys may be obtained from the Office of Co-Curricular Life<br />

on the second floor of Prothro Hall. Wayne Stark, Senior Director of Career<br />

Services serves as a primary resource and contact assisting with connections to<br />

<strong>College</strong> resources and to other non-residential students. His office is on the<br />

second floor of Prothro, ext. 6463.<br />

Meals may be purchased at the <strong>College</strong> meal rate at the front desk in the Prothro<br />

Atrium.<br />

Vehicles should be registered in the Campus Safety office; the cost is $100 per<br />

year. The Elijah, Guion, and Meta Glass parking lots are available for use.<br />

Non-Residential <strong>Student</strong>s may also use the Guest House for overnight stays<br />

during the week. For the minimal fee of $15.00, students can get clean towels,<br />

fresh linens, and a comfortable place to spend the evening. Please visit the front<br />

desk of the Elston Inn to pay the fee and pick up the towels and bedding. Please<br />

note: the Inn closes at 11p.m. each evening and re-opens at 7 a.m.<br />

First Year and Sophomore <strong>Student</strong> Programs<br />

Robyn Sanderson, Assistant Dean for First Year and Sophomore <strong>Student</strong><br />

Programs, leads a comprehensive program of personal engagement and support<br />

to first and second year students’ that is co-curricular in philosophy. She works<br />

closely with class officers and in collaboration with a number of <strong>College</strong> staff to<br />

create an environment at <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> that contributes to the quality of students'<br />

experiences as first years and sophomores, including their transitions to the<br />

following class years. She can be reached on the second floor of Prothro Hall, by<br />
