2. Telephone<br />
a. Each student is provided with a telephone in her residence and that<br />
telephone has voice mail. <strong>Student</strong>s must activate their voice mail and are<br />
responsible for messages received on the phone. Information on activating<br />
voice mail is available in the SBC telephone directory.<br />
b. Official communication sent via telephone includes notices of campus<br />
emergencies, communications from faculty and staff, and notice of<br />
weather events.<br />
3. Postal Mail<br />
a. Each student is provided with a U.S. Postal mail address and expected to<br />
rent a campus mailbox.<br />
b. Communications from the <strong>College</strong> may be sent through campus mail<br />
and/or U.S. Mail.<br />
c. Such communications may include, but are not limited to: course notices;<br />
grade reports; billing information; employment documents; faculty notices;<br />
and SGA and student organization notices.<br />
In summary, as a <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> student, you have responsibility for the<br />
information sent to you from the <strong>College</strong> from the official communication<br />
channels. The <strong>College</strong> takes every reasonable measure to ensure that<br />
communications are concise and efficiently managed.<br />
Computer Services<br />
The Computer Services Help Desk is located on the lower level of the Dorothy<br />
Sales Education Building, and can be reached from anywhere on campus by<br />
dialing HELP (ext. 4357) or from off campus (381.6282). Help Desk can assist<br />
students in connecting to the <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> network, configuring email and web<br />
browsers, personal devices such as smart phones and tablets and troubleshooting<br />
problems. Warranty repair service is available for Apple and Dell computers.<br />
Other repairs are available on a reimbursable basis. Also the Help Desk provides<br />
links on the website: http://sbc.edu/helpdesk that allow you to purchase<br />
software and any Dell or Apple computer at educational discount pricing.<br />
Academic Computing offers training and consulting services to all <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> students, faculty, and staff. Software training workshops are offered on<br />
a regular basis for faculty, staff and students. <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> community members<br />
(spouses, children, parents, etc…) are welcome to attend workshops if there is<br />
space available. Workshops are offered during the day and in the evening and<br />
are free. Workshop sessions are typically about 90 minutes in length. For more<br />

requests, please contact the Academic Technology Trainer at tmarcais@sbc.edu<br />
or ext. 6542. It is possible to organize training sessions for departments, student<br />
groups and classes. One-on-one consulting for special projects is also available.<br />
Academic Technology Support currently has five Apple computer labs<br />
(Benedict, Woody, Fletcher, Cochran-Smith, Babcock-Piano) with Boot Camp<br />
allowing machines to run both Apple’s OSX operating system and Microsoft’s<br />
