Prompt and effective steps will be taken to end the sexual violence,<br />

prevent its reoccurrence, and address its effects, whether or not the sexual<br />

violence is the subject of an investigation<br />

Steps will be taken to protect the complainant, including interim steps<br />

taken prior to the final outcome of an investigation<br />

Sexual misconduct and other offenses follow the disciplinary procedures<br />

outlined in the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong>, although in these cases the standard of<br />

preponderance of the evidence will be used, both parties have the same<br />

appeal rights, and both parties will be notified about the outcome<br />

In the case that a student experiences sexual violence off campus the <strong>College</strong><br />

will offer support and resources as well.<br />

Administrative Review process<br />

1. Administrative Review<br />

a. The Honor system establishes a student-governed process establishing<br />

and utilizing a student Judicial Committee so that concerns about student<br />

conduct may be effectively heard as provided in and in accordance with<br />

applicable policies the Honor and Judicial systems determine<br />

responsibility and establish consequences for behavior that violates policy<br />

or community standards in specified circumstances. The Judicial<br />

Committee’s processes, however, remain subject to the understanding<br />

that the Faculty, the Deans and the President have legitimate and<br />

compelling interests, perspectives and expertise for sustaining the Honor<br />

System. The Judicial Committee may, at its discretion, request the<br />

assistance, advice or support of the Dean of the Faculty or her designee in<br />

academic cases or from the Dean of Co-Curricular Life or her designee in<br />

non-academic cases.<br />

b. If the nature, extent, or severity of the behavior poses an immediate risk<br />

to the safety of the campus community the Administration may, at its<br />

discretion, take separate and independent action.<br />

The following interim sanctions and processes are available to<br />

Administration in emergency or extraordinary situations: In certain<br />

circumstances, the Dean of the Faculty, Dean of Co-Curricular Life, or<br />

the President of the <strong>College</strong> may impose a suspension pending an<br />

assessment and/or a hearing before the Judicial Committee. Appropriate<br />

circumstances in which an interim suspension may be imposed are as<br />

follows:<br />

a. to ensure the safety or well-being of members of the <strong>College</strong> community, or<br />

b. to preserve <strong>College</strong> property, or<br />

c. to ensure the student’s own physical or emotional safety or well-being, or<br />

d. if the student poses a threat of disruption or interference with the normal<br />

operations of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

During interim suspension, the student may be denied access to student<br />

residences and/or to the campus (including classes) and/or all other<br />
