Spring Semester: Residence areas reopen for residents returning for spring<br />

term on Tuesday, 1/22/13 at 8 a.m. The first meal served will be lunch.<br />

Spring Vacation: Residence areas close Saturday, 3/9/13 at 8 a.m. and<br />

reopen Sunday, 3/17/13 at 8 a.m. The first meal served will be dinner.<br />

End of Year: Residence areas close Thursday, 5/16/13 at 5:00 p.m. for<br />

underclass women. Graduating seniors are permitted to remain in residence<br />

through Commencement on Saturday, 5/18/13. The halls close at 5:30 p.m. that<br />

day and any student that has not moved out by that time will be fined $100.00<br />

per hour after 5:30pm. The <strong>College</strong> will enter the rooms for housekeeping<br />

purposes and will remove and/or discard any personal belongings left behind, as<br />

property of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Care of Room<br />

Residents are expected to keep their room and its furnishings clean and orderly.<br />

Each resident is responsible for damage to or loss of furniture, fixtures,<br />

equipment and effects, provided to her by the <strong>College</strong>. In the event that two or<br />

more persons occupy the same room and it cannot be ascertained who is<br />

responsible for the loss, damage or violation, the assessment and/or disciplinary<br />

consequence shall be shared equally among those assigned to the space. The<br />

<strong>College</strong> is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal items for any<br />

reason. There is no storage available on campus.<br />

Each room is furnished with beds, desks, chairs and bureaus. Each student is<br />

required to bring and use a fluid proof mattress pad and a surge protector for any<br />

and all electrical equipment. Halogen lamps are prohibited. Cinder blocks,<br />

bricks and lofts are not allowed. Waterbeds are not permitted. Due to storage<br />

limitations, beds, wardrobes and bureaus may not be removed from rooms<br />

nor may furnishings from common areas (lounges) be removed. Requests for<br />

additional furniture or for removal of certain furniture (bookcase, desk and/or<br />

chair) will be considered on a very limited basis. Also, rooms with “lofted<br />

furniture” may not request furniture removal. Desks, chairs, and wardrobes/<br />

dressers in Carson, Dew and the Green Village may not be removed from<br />

rooms. Such requests should be submitted to Physical Plant in the form of a<br />

work order using the work order web address: http://www.sbc.edu/helpdesk<br />

Common Indoor Living Spaces<br />

Common spaces are defined as any mutual living area. On a residential campus,<br />

the majority of spaces within the residence halls are viewed as common.<br />

Residents of designed triples, quads and apartments need to be mindful of<br />

policies/guidelines and Virginia alcohol laws, in particular, when utilizing these<br />

areas with friends, roommates, quad mates and/or guests who may not yet be of<br />

legal age. Residents should take great care in labeling their belongings. All<br />

spaces within the Green Village are not considered common living spaces.<br />

Health, Safety, and Well-Being<br />

For the protection of the entire community, the <strong>College</strong> maintains health and<br />

safety regulations. The well-being of a resident student cannot be ensured solely<br />
