ii. The Honor Advisor also acts as a resource to the Director of Residence Life and<br />
the Dean of Co-Curricular Life regarding the training of the Judicial<br />
Committee.<br />
d. If the Assistant Dean is involved in a Hearing or Trial, a designee will be<br />
assigned by the Assistant Dean to serve in this role.<br />
E. Internal Rules and Procedures<br />
1. The Judicial Chairs and Committee have the power to establish rules for the<br />
efficient operation of the system for the current year, including the assignment<br />
of responsibilities among the student representatives.<br />
a. The Secretary must file a written copy of the rules to be kept with the Dean<br />
of the Faculty, Director of Residence Life and/or the Dean of Co-Curricular<br />
Life.<br />
b. These internal rules are available for review by any student or faculty/staff<br />
member.<br />
2. The Judicial Committee Policies and Procedures are not binding in subsequent<br />
years unless readopted by the Judicial Committee.<br />
F. Conflicts of Interest and Recusal<br />
1. Any Judicial Committee member that is the subject of an investigation must<br />
recuse herself from the Committee until the investigation is resolved.<br />
2. If one of the Judicial Chairwomen feels that she cannot act fairly and<br />
impartially in a judicial matter, she must recuse herself from such matter. In the<br />
event of a recusal, the other Chairwoman will take her place and adopt her<br />
duties.<br />
3. In the case of the recusal of both the Chairwomen, the Deans have the authority<br />
to appoint a temporary Judicial Chairwoman.<br />
a. This temporary Judicial Chairwoman from is chosen from the <strong>Student</strong><br />
Government Executive Committee.<br />
b. A temporary Judicial Chairwoman should, but is not required to, have<br />
previous Judicial Committee experience.<br />
4. In the event that a Dean recuses himself or herself, the Dean’s designee will<br />
assume the role assigned to the Dean.<br />
G. Vacancies and Removal<br />
1. In the event that a member of the Judicial Committee can no longer fulfill her<br />
duties, she will be replaced by another eligible person within a timely manner.<br />
2. The vacancy of one or more positions on the Judicial Committee shall not<br />
affect the validity of the Judicial Committee’s actions.<br />
3. The rules and processes governing the election, removal or replacement of<br />
student members of the Judicial Committee are to be determined by the<br />
Executive Committee of the <strong>Student</strong> Government Association.<br />
II. <strong>Student</strong> Rights in the Judicial System<br />
A. Introduction<br />
1. In the Judicial System, students are afforded certain rights.<br />
a. <strong>Student</strong>s are expected to understand the rights afforded to them.<br />
b. A student’s ignorance of her rights will not be grounds for an Appeal in the<br />
Judicial Process.<br />
