In accordance with the NCAA Division III philosophy, athletics complements<br />

the educational experience and places priority on encouraging academic success.<br />

Adherence to NCAA rules and regulations regarding amateurism, ethical<br />

conduct and sportsmanship is emphasized.<br />

Athletic Physical Examination Policy<br />

Each student-athlete participating on varsity athletic team must complete a<br />

physical examination, as well as other required documentation, including a<br />

medical history report. Before a coach is permitted to allow a student-athlete to<br />

participate in a practice or game, all the required documents must be on file in<br />

the athletic training room. Please see the <strong>College</strong> Catalog for other policies<br />

pertaining to the Athletic department.<br />

Book Shop<br />

The Book Shop is located in the Prothro <strong>Student</strong> Commons area and provides a<br />

readily accessible source for textbooks, gifts, <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> insignia merchandise,<br />

trade books, and supplies. Daisy’s Café serves a variety of coffee, fruit drinks,<br />

Campus Safety<br />

<strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>College</strong> has 24-hour protection provided 365 days a year by the<br />

Department of Campus Safety. Located in the lower level of Fletcher Hall,<br />

dispatchers for the department maintain radio and telephone contact with police<br />

and safety officers and also monitor emergency alarms.<br />

The <strong>College</strong> prides itself on being a safe campus, but crimes can occur. <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

are encouraged to promptly report to the Department of Campus Safety any<br />

incidents of theft, vandalism, assault, or suspicious persons.<br />

The Department of Campus Safety maintains the data and statistics for the<br />

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime<br />

Statistics Act. This information is made available on the <strong>College</strong>’s website and<br />

paper copies will be made available upon request. For Vehicle Registration and<br />

Missing Persons Policy<br />

The <strong>College</strong> has a policy and procedures for missing student notification.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are given the option to identify and provide contact information for a<br />

person to be notified in the event a student is officially reported as missing.<br />

Communications<br />

SBCHTelecom Services<br />

SBCHTelecom provides the operational support for the <strong>College</strong>’s<br />

telecommunications systems and CATV. This includes installation and<br />

maintenance support for the data communications network.<br />
