& Standards of Group Behavior with the Inter-Club Council and the<br />
Judicial Committee; both the advisor and the designated head of the<br />
organization are required to return an acknowledgment to the Office of<br />
Co-Curricular Life that they have read the Hazing Policy and discussed it<br />
with members of the group or organization. Each <strong>College</strong>-approved club,<br />
group and organization will include in its by-laws a statement about<br />
adherence to the <strong>College</strong> Policy on Hazing & Standards of Group<br />
Behavior. When appropriate, the organization must also include in its bylaws<br />
specific sanctions (in accordance to those general violations given<br />
below) which will be applied to violations of the group’s own rules.<br />
These rules and violations will be drawn up and made part of the group’s<br />
bylaws in consultation with Inter-Club Council.<br />
1. Presidential Review<br />
The outcome of all investigations and hearing of potential violations<br />
of the <strong>College</strong> Policy on Hazing & Standards of Group Behavior will<br />
automatically be forwarded to the President’s Office for review. As<br />
the individual legally responsible for the compliance with state law,<br />
the President can accept or overturn any case outcome.<br />
II. Sanctions for Individuals and Groups.<br />
There are three levels of sanctions for violations of the <strong>College</strong> Policy on<br />
Hazing & Standards of Group Behavior, ranked in seriousness with the<br />
consequences, illegality, or harm of the behavior.<br />
B. Class 1 Violations<br />
Violations which threaten no physical harm but affect the individual and<br />
which negatively impact the community standards and interfere with the<br />
academic mission of the <strong>College</strong>; Class 1 Violations include, but are not<br />
limited to:<br />
1. Forcing or coercing the use of inappropriate, profane or offensive<br />
language and/or behavior; verbal harassment; requiring or compelling<br />
the wearing, in public of apparel that is obscene or that negatively<br />
impacts on the academic mission of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />
2. Explicit or implicit or coercion of a person to use her personal finances<br />
for ritual gifts.<br />
3. Structuring initiation activities such that they interfere with a student’s<br />
academic performance or readiness.<br />
4. Misleading prospective members in an effort to convince them that they<br />
will not become members, that they will be hurt during<br />
induction/initiation, or any other activity that would cause extreme<br />
mental stress or duress. Sanctions for Class 1 violations include, but are<br />
not limited to:<br />
a. Compensatory service.<br />
b. Suspension of an individual or group of individuals.<br />
c. Written warning. *<br />
d. Disciplinary action by the <strong>College</strong>, which may include official<br />
warning or disciplinary probation for an individual or individuals<br />
from the <strong>College</strong>.<br />
