Who’s Who Among <strong>Student</strong>s in American Universities and <strong>College</strong>s<br />

This national organization honors students annually who have distinguished<br />

themselves in both scholastic and extra-curricular areas of higher education. All<br />

members of the campus community nominate Junior and Senior <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong><br />

students. A selection committee receives and reviews the nominations and sends<br />

their recommendations to the program for this award. .<br />

Career Services<br />

Career Services is located on the second floor of Prothro Hall, ext. 6151. Wayne<br />

Stark, Senior Director of Career Services; Tandilyn Phillips, Assistant Director;<br />

and Alison Crehore, Coordinator of Campus <strong>Student</strong> Employment staff the office.<br />

The career planning program offered through Career Services is open to all<br />

students and is designed to help women identify and achieve professional goals.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are encouraged to participate in Career Services’ activities, one-on-one<br />

counseling, and programs from the start of their college years. A comprehensive<br />

four-year plan introduces students to the concept of career planning. First-year<br />

students and sophomores engage in self-assessment and career exploration<br />

processes. Juniors and seniors focus on gaining experience and planning for life<br />

after college through internships, other experiential learning opportunities and<br />

participation in a variety of career related events and programming. The full<br />

Career Management Series and Programs<br />

Each semester, the Career Services staff provides students with a full schedule<br />

of events and programs aimed at developing their readiness for life after <strong>Sweet</strong><br />

<strong>Briar</strong>. The “Career Management Series Workshops” focus on various career and<br />

graduate school topics. <strong>Student</strong>s can also network with potential employers and<br />

professionals from the various employment fields through field/major specific<br />

events, on-campus recruiting, career fairs and other special programs. Several<br />

career events are collaborative efforts with other Virginia schools: the<br />

CHALLENGE Career Fair, VFIC c2c Career Fair, graduate school and<br />

professional fairs, and a diversity career fair. The schedule for these programs<br />

Internship Program<br />

An important part of the four-year plan is the Internship program. By working<br />

one-on-one with a career counselor, second and third year students can obtain<br />

internships for academic credit to complement and augment their specific majors<br />

and career goals. Affiliation with e.Recruiting and Internships.com, which<br />

contains thousands of local, national, and international opportunities arranged by<br />

geographic location and specific career fields, give students a myriad of<br />
