CELLPHONE TAKE BACK PROGRAM
Launched in 2011, the campaign widened its coverage
in 2012, which in turn generated more response from
customers and enabled the company to gather more mobile
phones for recycling and recovering.
Moreover, for every old mobile phone collected for recycling,
Nokia donates ₱100 to the Philippine Tarsier Foundation
Inc. (PTFI) to support programs for preserving the Philippine
tarsier and its habitat. Anyone who donates a mobile phone
with battery would entitle the giver to receive a Nokia Ecoitem
and a chance to win a Nokia C6 smartphone in a raffle
draw.
MANAGING CARBON FOOTPRINT
As part of being a green and sustainable network, Globe
Telecom regularly monitors its greenhouse gas emissions.
Constant monitoring of these records allow the company
to check on performance and potential cost reduction. This
in turn will allow future development of more routines to
contribute to more efficiency in day-to-day operations.
The company uses the International GHG Protocol
Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard to
calculate emissions from fuel use, CO 2
emissions from
mobile combustion and purchased electricity and from
business travel. The calculation tools were developed and
copyrighted by the World Resources Institute (WRI).
The i-rEcover, i-rEcycle program aims to attract the general public, including Globe and non-Globe subscribers, as well as Nokia and non-
Nokia users, to donate old mobile phones by bringing them to the cellphone recycling bins located in Globe stores and at Ayala malls. In 2012,
McDonald’s Philippines once again donated mobiles phones and accessories to the i-rEcover, i-rEcycle program of Nokia, Globe Telecom, and
Ayala Foundation. Shown in photo during the turnover ceremonies are (from L-R): Edwin Ylescupidez, Head of Globe Energy Management;
Rob I. Nazal, Head of Globe Corporate Social Responsibility; Monavie Ariem, Financial Analyst of McDonald’s, and Ramoncito Nazarea,
Manager of McDonald’s Management Services.
