GCASH<br />
G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI) is a pillar in m-commerce and a<br />
fully-owned subsidiary of Globe Telecom. GXI pioneered<br />
the mobile commerce service called GCASH which was<br />
launched in the Philippines in October 2004. GCASH is<br />
an internationally-acclaimed mobile commerce service of<br />
G-Xchange, Inc. which allows Globe and TM subscribers to<br />
send and receive cash conveniently anytime and anyw<strong>here</strong>.<br />
It delivers over one single platform the three major cash<br />
transactions made by consumers today: purchase and<br />
payments, person-to-person or P2P transactions, and<br />
domestic and international remittances.<br />
In 2012, GCASH launched the GCASH PowerPay+, a salary<br />
disbursement service that enables employees to receive<br />
their salaries through their mobile phones and withdraw their<br />
cash from any of the 13,000 ATMs all over the country using<br />
the PowerPay+ ATM card. Their money can also be cashed<br />
out through more than 7,000 GCASH outlets nationwide.<br />
This pioneering product also provides insurance coverage as<br />
an added benefit on top of all existing GCASH services.<br />
GCASH also launched its very own mobile application with<br />
the GCASH Mobile App which can be downloaded for free<br />
from the App Store, Google Play or Blackberry® App World.<br />
This smartphone application makes it more convenient<br />
and enjoyable for users to do GCASH transactions such<br />
as buying airtime load with 10% rebate, sending money to<br />
others via mobile phone, Facebook and email and even<br />
paying utility bills.<br />
GCASH has also partnered with American Express to launch<br />
the GCASH American Express Virtual Pay, a prepaid virtual<br />
card linked to a subscriber’s GCASH mobile wallet which<br />
allows users to shop conveniently online from both local<br />
and international sites. It gives each user a personalized US<br />
Address to allow delivery of purchases right at their doorstep<br />
from international online sites which do not normally ship<br />
goods to the Philippines.<br />
GCASH American Express Virtual Pay is fast becoming<br />
popular in buying digital goods as users don’t need to have<br />
a credit card to purchase apps, music, or videos for their<br />
smartphones or gadgets from Apple iTunes US and<br />
Philippines Store, Google Play, Windows Marketplace and<br />
BlackBerry® App World.<br />
GXI is registered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)<br />
as a duly licensed Remittance Agent and Electronic Money<br />
Issuer. As a BSP-supervised entity, GXI is required to<br />
comply with the implementing rules and regulations of the<br />
Philippine Anti-Money Laundering Law (R.A. 9160/9194) as<br />
well as the rules on E-Money (BSP Circular 649). To mitigate<br />
the risk of fraud, GXI employs system and operational control<br />
measures like the use of two-factor authentication which<br />
requires subscribers to use their GCASH-registered SIMs<br />
together with their four-digit Mobile Personal Identification<br />
Numbers (MPIN) before a transaction is processed.<br />
GXI also has a system that diligently captures customers’<br />
personal data that are electronically recorded and digitized in<br />
a central database.<br />
Similar to banks, GXI is capable of monitoring and reporting<br />
GCASH transactions that are considered suspicious through<br />
the use of a robust TelCo-grade fraud monitoring system.<br />
The system captures both GCASH and TelCo data of a<br />
registered GCASH subscriber. It uses software which can<br />
automatically do trend analysis and linking of transactions<br />
via configurable parameters which helps analysts in the<br />
detection of transactions with unusual patterns. It also has<br />
a daily and monthly transaction limit in<strong>here</strong>ntly set in the<br />
system which prevents users in abusing the system.<br />
With all these, GCASH continues to lead the mobile financial<br />
services industry by continuously providing products and<br />
services to address customer needs. With both Globe and<br />
GCASH’s drive for a customer first and innovation mindset ,<br />
both new and existing customers will continue to benefit from<br />
these value-added services.<br />
BPI Globe BanKO – banking for the<br />
unbanked Filipino<br />
BPI Globe BanKO, the country’s first mobile-based,<br />
microfinance-focused bank and Globe Telecom’s joint<br />
venture with BPI and <strong>Ayala</strong> Corporation, continued to make<br />
headway in 2012, growing to almost 300,000 depositors just<br />
one year after it launched its community banking services.<br />
The bank offers affordable financial products to serve a<br />
wider market through its 2,000-strong network of partner<br />
outlets including pawnshops, grocery stores, pharmacies,<br />
and other retail establishments. This pioneering “partner<br />
outlet” concept of banking allows BanKO accountholders to<br />
transact at accredited establishments within their community,<br />
with expanded coverage that now includes Visayas and<br />
Mindanao.<br />
BanKO conducts acquisition and financial literacy caravans<br />
at the grassroots level, giving the opportunity for residents<br />
of marginalized communities and organizations to open<br />
bank accounts. Through its full-year TV segment “Bossing<br />
Savings” in Eat Bulaga in 2012, BanKO became a household<br />
name among the DE segment.<br />
BanKO continues to provide wholesale loans to microfinance<br />
institutions (MFIs) such as rural banks, cooperatives, nongovernment<br />
organizations and people’s organizations, who<br />
in turn provide credit access to micro-entrepreneurs. Its<br />
wholesale loan portfolio increased to ₱2.5B, 16% higher than<br />
previous year.<br />
It also partnered with various government agencies and<br />
non-government organizations (NGOs) to provide access<br />
to savings, insurance and loans. Recipients of the DSWD’s<br />
Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program that provides cash<br />
grants to qualified beneficiaries were given financial literacy<br />
training and encouraged to open BanKO accounts. BanKO<br />
partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC)<br />
to give microfinance services to communities for clean<br />
energy and energy-saving projects, giving access to cheaper<br />
and environmentally-friendly sources of power for small<br />
businesses. It also partnered with Alay Sa Kaunlaran Inc.<br />
(ASKI) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)<br />
to extend microloans to farmer-members of ASKI who are<br />
also BanKO accountholders, giving them access to credit for<br />
materials to grow their yield and improve their productivity.<br />
With its wide array of affordable financial services and<br />
accessible touchpoints, BanKO is leading the way in<br />
promoting financial inclusion by giving every Filipino the<br />
opportunity to have access to banking services.<br />
