SPECIAL <strong>REGULATIONS</strong><br />

8.6.12.2.2 Freestanding: Signs for Planned Development Multifamily Developments with<br />

a maximum size of 9 square feet, limited to one per lot and placed outside of<br />

the road right of way, with a maximum height of (6) six feet, provided the sign<br />

is compatible with the residential character of the area. (maximum height of 6<br />

feet). The posts of such signs shall not be more than 4 feet apart, measured<br />

from the center of each post.<br />

8.6.13 SIGNS PERMITTED FOLLOWING THE ISSUANCE <strong>OF</strong> A SPECIAL PERMIT<br />

AND A SIGN PERMIT.<br />

8.6.13.1 The Commission may permit a sign which exceeds the maximum square<br />

footage outlined herein and may approve signs of a number, height, type and<br />

location which are not otherwise permitted herein, with consideration of the<br />

following:<br />

8.6.13.1.1 The quality of the architectural design<br />

8.6.13.1.2 The type of illumination<br />

8.6.13.1.3 The style and color<br />

8.6.13.1.4 The relationship of the sign to the building and to other signs within the area<br />

8.6.13.1.5 The location and height of the sign<br />

8.6.13.1.6 The materials of construction<br />

8.6.13.1.7 The visibility of the sign<br />

8.6.13.1.8 The existence and quality of a Unified Sign Plan<br />

8.6.13.1.9 The quality of the graphic design<br />

8.6.14 ILLUMINATION<br />

Signs may be illuminated only upon the issuance of a Special Permit by the<br />

Commission. No sign may be illuminated by either internal or external<br />

illumination without such approval. In making a decision on the proposed<br />

illumination of a sign the Commission shall consider the following items in<br />

addition to the criteria outlined within Section 8.2.<br />

1. The proximity of the sign to residential properties,<br />

2. The specific location of the sign as placed on the property,<br />
