exception of Trout Run and Sixteenmile Creek. The popularity of these two streams with steelhead<br />

fishermen appears to have waned since the early 1980s, perhaps due to water-quality problems (see<br />

Chapter 5). A connection between stream water-quality degradation and the success of the watershed's<br />

sport fisheries underscores the importance of the river conservation plan's goal of promoting land<br />

protection/conservation efforts to prevent further degradation of the watershed's streams. The<br />

demonstrated importance to the local economy provided by the steelhead fishery (detailed in Murray and<br />

Shields 2004) suggests that local economy might benefit from investments that expand recreational<br />

fishing opportunities in streams (and stream segments) not currently utilized by fishermen.<br />
