expenditures in the region for the year 2003 alone. Moreover, the authors of that survey claim that "this<br />

activity generates $5.71 million in new value-added activity in <strong>Erie</strong> County, supporting 219 jobs in the<br />

economy through direct and indirect effects" (Murray and Shields 2004:1). This increased activity (and hence,<br />

presumably greater angler expenditure) has been greatly facilitated by the construction, improvement, and<br />

maintenance of access areas by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. <strong>Conservation</strong> activities related<br />

to this recreational activity are considered a high priority.<br />
