! 44% of individuals answered at least 8 of 9<br />

questions about the watershed and pollution<br />

correctly. More than two in five people have a<br />

“high knowledge” of threats to the health of the<br />

watershed.<br />

! 45% of respondents answered between 5 and 7<br />

questions correctly. Approximately 89% of them<br />

have a “high” or “moderate” knowledge of<br />

pollution threats.<br />

! Individuals are most unsure whether gravel or<br />

asphalt parking lots are helpful or harmful to<br />

water quality, with 22% indicating that they did<br />

not know.<br />

! Three out of ten people believe that allowing<br />

farm animals free access to streams is not<br />

harmful to the streams.<br />

much lawn fertilizer is harmful to the health of<br />

Overall knowldge of watersheds and sources of pollution was determined by the total number of correct responses for the preceding<br />

questions related to the defintion of the term “watershed” and various sources of water pollution. Residents were classified as possessing<br />

“high knowledge” f they answered 8-9 questions correctly; “moderate knowledge” if they answered 5-7 questions correctly; and “low<br />

knowledge” if they answered 0-4 questions correctly.<br />
