His life started in Şanlıurfa… He lost his mum when he was<br />

a child and he was dreaming of being a footballer… he was<br />

inspired by his father’s fastidiousness and elegance… An unforgettable<br />

advice from his father: “Have a good job and be<br />

helpful for the society”… He came to Istanbul for his university<br />

education and he went on his carrier there. He is our<br />

first male fashion designer. Being affected by the line of Bedri<br />

Rahmi Eyuboğlu that says: “The colour has been everything<br />

that exists in the universe…”, he used the colour burgundy,<br />

green and blue in man clothing… Although he wasn't<br />

trained in fashion and tailoring, he is successful thanks to his<br />

talent. He is a stylist who is still designing without using computer<br />

and he never leaves his colour chart from his hand. He<br />

doesn't need any stylists and designers, he also does fittings<br />

himself. He is the first and the only one who has got a Vocational<br />

School of Design attached to the General Directorate<br />

of Foundations. And he is also the first one having used the<br />

first bartering technique and having designed the uniforms of<br />

National Team.<br />

We are going to treat the life story, the education and the<br />

professional success of Faruk Saraç, a person who is so shy<br />

that he cannot tell his surname and that he cannot attend<br />

openings alone.<br />

Faruk Saraç was born in 1955 in Urfa where the colour yellow<br />

dominate apart from the blue sky colour and which has a<br />

scorched geography being 50C under shadow. He is the second<br />

child of a family having three children. His father was an<br />

an officer in a bank. He says that his father, who is Faruk's idol<br />

in elegance, never went out without wearing a tie and having<br />

a fastidious personality, he was always careful about wearing.<br />

"Our home was situated in bazaar. At lunch time, my father<br />

used to come home on foot, then he used to take off his suits<br />

and wear his pyjamas, after having had his lunch he used to<br />

take a nap then iron his suits himself, wear them again and go<br />

back to his work." He says about his father.<br />

His mother Cemile went to sewing course at Art Institude. Little<br />

Faruk was watching his mum with admire while she was<br />

sewing clothes for her children with a pedal sewing machine.<br />

Sometimes Faruk helped his mother while she was covering<br />

the quilts that had been cleaned. He was a naughty child, he<br />

started primary school in Nizip and he went on his primary and<br />

secondary education in the center of Urfa. He started playing<br />

football when he was at primary school and he joined Young<br />

Team of UrfaSpor. In 1973 he came to Istanbul from which<br />

he would never go back. He walked from Harem to Kadıköy<br />

very early in the morning in accordance with the address in his<br />

hand. In those years, there was an opera theater there and<br />

he says: "I watched for 10 or 15 minutes the poster of Yıldız<br />

Tezcan and Ahmet Sezgin, at those times, people in Kadıköy<br />

used to put money down with baskets through apartments.<br />
