Dr. Ann Zimmerman of the University of Michigan traveled to CCR on 10/25/10 for a full day of
meetings and conferences. She was briefed on TAS progress to date and we discussed plans for
soliciting user input for TAS products such as XDMoD and the Application Kernel Toolkit at
SC10 and beyond.
User Needs: Team members from the University of Michigan (UM) submitted their Institutional
Review Board (IRB) application for approval. Upon acceptance of the application, they will be
able to recruit and conduct research with potential users of TAS. They also developed data
collection protocols for user interviews and observations and submitted these with the IRB
paperwork. Studies of user needs will focus initially on end users of TG/XD. The sampling
strategy will include users with different size allocations, from different domains, and with
varying levels of computational expertise and experience.
9.4.2 Meetings and Events
Weekly meetings of the TAS Working Group are held every Wednesday afternoon. UB project
members attend in person with University of Michigan and Indiana University subcontractors
attending by web and audio conference. TAS personnel were very active at SC10. A description
of the presentations made at SC10 is given below.
CCR Presentations at SC10:
11/16/10 SC10 Birds-of-a-feather XDMoD presentation at SC10: Dr. Thomas R. Furlani, Dr.
Matthew D. Jones and Mr Steven M. Gallo led a BOF presentation of XDMoD at SC10. The
TAS program in general and the prototype XDMoD portal in particular was very well received.
A number of useful comments and suggestions were made by TG users at the BOF and these
suggestions will find their way into future XDMoD releases.
11/17/10 SC10 Dell booth presentation on TAS: Dr. Thomas R. Furlani gave an invited
presentation describing the TAS program, XDMoD and other CCR projects at the Dell booth.
CCR booth at SC10 features XDMoD demonstration: The CCR booth at SC10 was well
attended. The booth featured an information sheet on XDMoD and a working demonstration of
XDMoD on a laptop computer. The TG/XD users who tried the demonstration were generally
pleased with the software and they were able to offer several useful comments that will aid the
development of XDMoD.
TAS Technical Advisory Committee Meeting at SC10:
