11 Project Management
11.1 Highlights
The reporting process was modified this quarter to accommodate a change in the reporting
requirements as we enter the final phase of the TeraGrid.
11.2 Project Management Working Group
11.2.1 Tracking
The IPP/WBS tracking process is continuing with project managers reviewing status with area
directors. The area directors are finding the tracking process to be a useful exercise, providing
them with a thorough overview of their area’s status against the plan. The update is included as an
appendix to this report.
11.2.2 Reporting
The reporting process was modified this quarter to accommodate a change in the reporting
requirements as we enter the final phase of the TeraGrid. Normally we would generate an annual
report for the calendar year, but later this year we will be generating a final report that includes
calendar year 2010 as well as the activity in 2011.
12 Science Advisory Board Interactions
No Science Advisory Board (SAB) meetings took place during this period. The next SAB
meeting, which may be the final one under the current TeraGrid project, will be held Jan. 20-21
2011.
13 Collaborations with Non-TeraGrid Institutions
13.1 Data Systems
DataONE: John Cobb at the ORNL-RP continues to work with the DataONE DataNet project,
serving on its leadership team.
REDDnet: The ORNL-RP continues to work with the REDDnet collaboration. Three different
TeraGrid sites now have REDDnet nodes.
13.2 Science Projects
NEES: John Cobb (ORNL) has joined the NEEScomm Governing board. Although not directly a
TeraGrid/NEES partnership, this does create mutual opportunities for TeraGrid and NEES as
NEEScomm (www.nees.org) continues to improve its data management and curation efforts as
well as it HPC strategy. Additionally, John Cobb and Daniel S. Katz (UC/ANL) are on the
steering committee for a NEES-sponsored data workshop in February 2011.
TACC continues to participate in the World Community Grid (WCG) effort. The main TACC
resources contributing to the solution of problems addressed by the WCG is the visualization
system Colt (40 compute cores). The Stampede cluster that previously contributed cycles was
decommissioned 10/1. TACC staff desktops and laptops also provide cycles to the project. Over 9
years of run time have been accumulated (19,377 results) on TACC resources in the reporting
period.
