publication.
10.8.4 RP Operations: External Relations
PSC
The movie “Career Gates: STEM” with appearances by PSC’s Joel Stiles and Jacob Czech won
the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s 2010 Emmy®
Award for Children/Youth/Teen (19 and under) - Program or Special. The movie is on you-tube
SDSC
TeraGrid RP local external relations staff developed local site-specific content as well as
contributed to TeraGrid-wide activities and publications. External relations staff provide web and
print media outlets detailing the successes of the TeraGrid project and its user community. They
also develop materials for Supercomputing and TeraGrid conferences.
SDSC’s Communications staff continued to provide writing and publications support to TG
External Relations activities. Specifically,
• Warren Froelich, SDSC’s communications director, served as lead editor for 2010 TG
Science Highlights, coordinating, editing and providing graphic oversight for the
publication. Following his stint as Deputy Chair for TG’10, Froelich was tapped to serve
in the same capacity for TG’11, working with event chair John Towns (NCSA) on the
planning and follow-through for the annual conference scheduled next July in Salt Lake
City.
• Jan Zverina, in his role as TG science writer, continued to identify and write stories,
including an article on TG’s science gateways being used as a model for a five-year, $4.4
million NSF award to form a collaborative software framework for analysis of
geographic data. As TG’10 Communications Co-Chair, Jan also worked with Sonya
Nayak and members of the TG’10 communications team to finalize related TG’10
expenditures.
• Ben Tolo, SDSC’s graphics designer/web manager, created the TG’11 Save the Date
card, provided slide graphics for SC’10, and helped proof TG Science Highlights. Ben
also has been asked to serve on the Communications committee for TG’11.
