Purdue has also created a data publishing web application so individual researchers can self
publish and share their datasets. Both file based and table based data are supported. Completion is
expected next quarter.
The Springboard hub extends access to HPC beyond the command line. Access to Purdue’s
Wispy cloud have been integrated and version 1 of Cloud Dashboard, a user interface hosted in
Springboard allows TeraGrid users to launch, control and run applications on Wispy,. This was
demonstrated at CloudCom in December 2010. Springboard has also been upgraded with the
latest HUBzero software.
4.3 Gateway Infrastructure and Services
Accounting Tools.
A new job monitoring portlet has been deployed in the TeraGrid user portal and is running at all
sites. The portlet includes start time predictions for queued jobs. The User Profile Service caches
job information from the TeraGrid central database. This includes an expanded search interface, a
view of real time jobs, attribute support and performance improvements, responding to user
requests.
Improved standardization of community accounts.
A survey of Teragrid RP sites regarding gateway security items has been completed. Results are
being written up in a white paper.
Security work also includes installation and testing of GRAM5 and its interoperation with
commsh. The discovery of incomplete configuration instructions has resulted in rerunning tests
for the while paper. Subsequently, improvements have been made to configuration instructions as
well as GRAM5 installation instructions.
Next quarter, several projects will be completed - GRAM4 installation on Kraken (including
integration with commsh and gramAudit and testing with the GridAMP gateway) commsh
documentation updates. and the white paper on securing TeraGrid science gateways
Work will begin to convert the GridAMP gateway to GRAM5 on Kraken.
Virtual machine support.
During this quarter, Indiana University added virtual machines to support failover for the
TeraGrid Mobile Portal and TeraGrid Forum.
SimpleGrid.
Job management and visualization Open Social gadgets have been developed for SimpleGrid this
quarter. These were demonstrated at SC10. SimpleGrid gadgets allow scientists to use TeraGrid
in iGoogle and other open social containers, contributing to broad use and easy integration of
TeraGrid capabilities through social networking.
SimpleGrid online courses are being developed in CI-Tutor, which is used extensively in
TeraGrid’s education, outreach and training activities. Previous online courses have been
extended to include more examples and better instructions.
Next quarter, the team will deploy SimpleGrid as a cloud resource for new science gateway
development support. Users will be able to request a virtual machine image with SimpleGrid
installed.
Helpdesk support.
The gateway helpdesk team continued to help new gateway developers including some from
National University through the use of the SimpleGrid tutorial.
