During this quarter Cui prepared and performed a two-day data-intensive 1-Hz M8 simulation
using 30K Kraken cores and this generated 120 TB volume data for analysis for the visualization
tool GlyphSea. Optimization of MPI-I/O scheme was done on upgraded Cray XT5. Cui
contributed significantly to the slides presented at the Gordon Bell finalist presentation by PI Tom
Jordan. Cui and Chourasia were co-authors of the Gordon Bell finalist SC10 paper.
Chourasia continued extensive visualization work for M8 simulations. Several animations were
created for analysis and presentation at the SC10 conference Gordon Bell and Master Works talks
by PI Tom Jordan. The visualization were performed on the Jaguar, Kraken and Nautilus

Preliminary building response visualizations were also created in collaboration with SCEC and
CalTech researchers.
Urbanic continued substantial optimizations regarding single and double precision switches for
the Hercules code this quarter.
