6.3 Allocations Process and Allocation Management
This objective encompasses the allocations process, both for Startup/Education allocations as well
as the merit-review TRAC Research request process, the POPS system for request handling and
management, mechanisms by which allocation PIs manage allocations through transfers,
extensions and so on, and interfaces by which allocation PIs manage the users who are authorized
to use their allocations. Operationally, this objective includes the TRAC review process, the
Startup allocations review and decision process, and the maintenance and operations of the POPS
system.
The allocation staff continues to receive in excess of two new/renewal startup requests each day.
TeraGrid received 206 Startup requests (168 approved) and 12 Education requests (12 approved).
Table 6-2 shows the overall allocations management activity handled by POPS and the
allocations staff. Note that for Transfers, the table shows only the positive side of the transaction
to show the total transfer level; there is a corresponding negative amount, adjusted for resource
exchange rates.

6.4 RP Integration and Information Sharing
The TGCDB continues to be successfully monitored via Inca. The failover system continues to
sync with the production TGCDB server. In a GIG coordinated project spanning multiple RPs,
staff from NCSA, PSC and SDSC working as a team successfully upgraded the TGCDB and
failover servers to a new version of postgreSQL. In doing so, significant performance
enhancements were made available as well as providing an ongoing supported version of the db
for TeraGrid.
