The Indiana University Science Gateway team worked with Prof. Borries Demeler and Dr. Emre
Brookes of the University of Texas Health Science Center to transition their UltraScan science
gateway infrastructure from TACC’s Lonestar to Ranger systems. During the current reporting
quarter, UltraScan’s Ranger allocation usage went from 0 to 57,747 SUs, using the GFAC service
the Open Gateway Computing Environments (OGCE) to manage its ultracentrifugation
experimental data analysis and mask differences between Globus GRAM versions. This work
also involved significant testing of the new GRAM5 services on Ranger that greatly accelerates
TeraGrid’s deployment schedule.
4.2 Targeted Support
CIPRES.
The CIPRES gateway can now support individual user allocations. Heavy users of the gateway
can apply for their own allocation and access it directly through the same familiar gateway
interface. With the high demand for the gateway, this is a method for extending the allocation, but
will also to enable individual researchers to accomplish their own research goals unfettered by
limited computational time..
Tools were moved from Lonestar to Abe due to decommissioning of the temporary
decommissioning of Lonestar during its upgrade. Improvements to gateway user interface include
bulk file upload and download. Next quarter plans include porting codes raxml, mrbayes and
mafft to the new Trestles system.
Cactus.
The basic configuration and simulation commands for SimFactory now work with Adcirc, a
coastal circulation and storm surge model. SimFactory (http://simfactory.org) unifies middleware
for remote access and job management. The additional commands --adcprep-schedule, --enableadcprep-submission,
--adcprep-walltime were added to address Adcirc's specific needs.
