<strong>Vegetation</strong> description:<br />

Globally. This association has only been described from Petrified Forest National Park. Until further inventory is<br />

completed, there is no global information.<br />

Petrified Forest National Park. Fifteen accuracy assessment relevés were identified as Sarcobatus vermiculatus<br />

/ Atriplex obovata Shrubl<strong>and</strong>. Cover of Sarcobatus vermiculatus ranged from 5 to 25%. Co-dominant plants were<br />

the dwarf native shrub Atriplex obovata (cover 1 to 25%) <strong>and</strong> the native grass Sporobolus airoides (cover 1 to 75%).<br />

Species diversity among the relevés ranged from 3 to 9 species. Sarcobatus vermiculatus was co-dominant with the<br />

native dwarf-shrub Atriplex obovata. The association was found generally on saline <strong>and</strong> alkaline soils <strong>and</strong> in areas<br />

with periodic sheet flow, often near a wash system.<br />
