As of 2005, 31,450 state <strong>and</strong> local governmentalemployers were offering such plans 13 . Public sector 457 (b) plans are typically offeredas a supplement to existing defined benefit systems. Favorable regulatory changesincluding EGTRRA have improved the features of these plans leading to an increase inadopti<strong>on</strong>s as well as increased participati<strong>on</strong>.
